Who'd Like to Color a School Girl

So I thought I would try something fun, and give people out there some line art that they could color. I thought it might be fun to see different ways people would color my own art work. If you do choose to try it out, Please post it and send me a link, and ill try to put it under the drawing so everyone can see the different versions. And when you do post it, Credit me and link me. So Im finally going to be doing something at comic con, though its the 4th or 5th year in a row i have not been able to get a table.
Instead of a table I'm going to be on a panel! woohoo. The Episode there featuring at the show I directed so Ill be there for that even though my name isn't important enough to put on the schedule, but that is the life of an artist.
The episode is really great though its a kinda hip hoprea, and they got Cee Lo to do a sing and do a voice.

Its going to be in Ballroom 20 at 2:35-3:15 on Sat. So come on by and see me watching what the voice actors say, Ill have the best seat in the house!

Hi all, just wanted to thank everyone for a wonderful time at wondercon, though it was super busy. I wish I could have seen more of other artists booth there, but there just wasn't time.

Also I took a few minutes to try to change my blogs look a little, its been ages since i did it, and they have made doing it a hell of a lot easier. Hope people like it!

Thought i would throw this sketch up for everyone. I never really finished it but I was trying to draw a groo in my style. I made him look like John Goodman, witch makes me wish they made a groo movie with him when he was young (as opposed to the Flintsons movie, eck)

Sunny day-Wonder con 2011

Just a friendly little reminder that Wonder con is coming up and I well be at booth AA-039 this year. If your in San Francisco come check it out. Its really a great alternative to San Diego, and sometimes I think better! Hollywood hasn't been hogging it up, and it actually has comics! Its like San Diego lite.

This picture is inspired by anime. Not in the since or drawing style, but just in the posing. I started working on this for a new sketchbook Im working on and really liked the way it turned out, so I am going to make it into a print, and I well be selling it at WONDER CON!!

While I was there I did a commission for someone. That is were this picture comes in. He gave me a few options of stuff he would like, and I went with Rogue fighting Sauron. Mostly because it sticks out in my head with images of high school.

Its been a while! But I have been busy, not just with work, but with these....When I have had free time I started to draw some portraits on these square paper. And I plan on selling them at the Conventions I go to. I been meaning to put a few online to show, but with my new mac my lovely printer decided not to work anymore, So i had to go out and fine a good new one.... Wonder Con is just around the corner. Only a week to go and I finally got my prints for my new piece. I printed it bigger than my other peices, with it being 22x 14. Hopefully Ill have it up sometime soon on Etsy for anyone to get it.

If your going to be in San Fransico stop by Wonder con April 2-4 I well have a booth in Artist Alley, Booth number AA083. Should be a good time for all, its my second time being there and though I have never been able to get a table at Comic con, this convention seems like a great if not better alternative to Comic con....Simply there actual comics there and less hollywood.

I thought I would throw this up for everyone to take a look at, It is the line work for an up coming print I am working on.
This is a picture a long time in the making. I actually sketched the idea a few years ago, and just didn't get around to it, but Im glad that time past because I feel like this picture is a big impovement from my original drawing.
I am trying something a little different this time, and I am giving it a little more of a comic ink job to it, with more darks, also with the picture inspired from Mark Schultz drawings I thought I would add some shadows with hatching and not just with colorer.
I am getting pretty far along with coloring right now, so hopefully with well be ready for Wondercon witch is in April.

So I been trying to think of a character that I plan on doing a story with, and lately I been trying to sketch the character when I can, just trying to see what I would be comfortable with drawing, so the character doesn't change by the time i am finished with the story. Right now I am in the early stages of thinking about it so the character might change in the end. The only reason she is in a bikini here is because its an easy thing to draw.

Shoot! in techno color

So this is a picture I did on THEDRAWINGBOARD.ORG and I had only did the line work with the expectation to color it in at some point. It was one of there Jams that they used photos of Miss-Mosh Needless to say I had tons of other things on my plate and never got around to it until now. It has been about a year since the Jam. Though I still have a lot on my plate and I have really moved on. So I did a quick color job. I wanted to give it a paint look to it, and doing it fast really helped that out. I wish I could have come up with some colors different to the photo, just to change it up a little, but the photo on its own did everything right.
I liked the line work, and how her face turned out.

Just a sketch that I decided to color since I did it in the computer, the coloring was suppose to be pretty quick, but like most time once I splash a little bit of color onto it I end up putting a little more color and spend a little more time on it than expected.

So its been ages since i have done something to put up. This was something I was working on for a compilation comic called HOT MEXICAN LOVE. This years book was put on hold for a while, so I have not completed my pages for the story I was doing, but hopefully it well be done sooner than later. But in the mean time I thought I would put this panel up for people to see because its one of my favorites.
Carlito is the cowboy on the left, He is basically a bounty hunter that has 2 things on his mind, Food and women...and money is his way to get both when he can't get it for free. And he can get money doing bounty hunting.

Also this is my first attempt to do an all digital comic, and it is working out great.....at least i think so.

This is one of my sketches from a Figure drawing session I did in April at a place called Get the Lead Out. The theme was Heavy Metal. For what ever reason my mind thought it was going to be more Mad Max, but this look worked great to, especially because i been drawing girls with swords on my own anyways. This particular pose I believe was 10 minutes (might have been a little longer) I spent some time on it after I got home, and cleaned it up some becaue i enjoyed the pose. I really have been enjoying going to themed figure drawing latley, it seems to help out the models come up( or feel comfortable) with poses that aren't text book class room figure drawing, witch at this point I feel like i have drawn so many of those poses in the past 15 years.

Man it took me awhile to finally be able to post this up. I been working so much that i kept putting of downloading and resizing these. That is until today.
So my work had an art show about 3 weeks ago, and everyone got a munny or mighty mug and painted them in there own way. There were so many cool ones there that i wanted to buy but i wasn't the only one. I actually like the more abstract ones, but My skills are with characters.
When I sat down and think of what i was going to paint I remembered painting little minitures of warhammer from earlier days, and thought it would be funny to paint the munny like it was one of them, so that is were the orc comes into play. The one on the right is really cool lookin, it was done by one of my coworks KAT(I actually don't know her full name, sorry)
I really liked the way the orc came out so I am making another orc for the hell of it.

I have constantly been designing a Ninja girl, and I seem to always change it in one way or another. This is a first in what I hope to be a group of ninja girls I am planning to draw up.
I thought I would show the different stages, though I realized to late, It probably would be nice to show people the in between of the bigining of color and the final color.

This is what happens when Screwing around goes to far...You take something you didn't think you would spend more than a few hours on and make is super shiny. Have to say it was fun doing it.

What made me draw Starfire, I don't know. I don't even really know who she is(until i looked it up, thanks internet). I know she is from space, she is in Teen Titans, and when she flies her hair looks really long. I think her hair was what made me want to draw her, that and her orange skin( just something different.) Lately she does not seem to have big hair, but I think its kinda the character. This was my first time messing with it, and I think at some point I would like to try another one to see if i could mess with the hair some more.

Anyhow, I did this picture a few weeks ago, but since I been working on something that has taken me a while to do(still working on it). I thought I would post something so my blog doesn't get that ghosttown vibe to it.

So I was messing around with sketchbook pro, and decided to put figure drawing to good use. This is me trying to do a pose I have seen drawn quit a few times in my years of Figure drawing, but with out a model...Just to see.

Figure drawing rocks, but its hard to bring your desktop to the class room. You can never get enough of it, and aways helps.

So I just got sketchbook pro and started to test things out. I don't know yet if it has any pros to using it over sketching in photoshop, they seem the same but you can do more with photoshop. One thing it does kinda nicely is markers( Though with time I'm sure I could get a brush working in CS). So I tried this kinda like a convention sketch. The Thing seemed to work really well in the medium, but I don't know how other characters would translate. Time to sketch more!

So I had a little free time and just wanted to draw so I participated in thedrawingboard.org 's latest drawing jam (Which you can see the forum with the original photos HERE .) They put up 3 drawings of someone, this time Jessica Gomes, and everone shares there drawing they did based off one of the pictures. I don't mind drawing from pictures but My biggest hick up is that sometimes I try to make my own picture look like photo to much. Which is fine when your practicing I guess, but I do like to try to bring something new to the image, However when the phot happens to be good already its hard to take it somewere further. Needless to say I took this as a figure drawing practice. It was fun to do, but I spent a little more time on it than I thought I was.

Also thanks to anyone and everyone that went to wonder con to look, laugh at, or bought something from me. It was a blast and I can't wait to do it again. Hope everyone enjoyed. And if you took a post card that lead you here, Welcome and I hope to see you more often.

So I am going to be off to Wonder con at the end of this month, and I haven't been doing much posting because I have been getting stuff ready for the convention. One of the things that i have been doing in my spare time is drawing on post its that I include in my sketchbook I am selling, (because I don't want my head down trying to draw them all at the convention) and since there post its I have been putting some of them on P.I.P. for people to see that are not going to make it to the Wonder con.

So i been playing to much video games and not drawing enough lately and this dwarf is an after math of it. I don't know what it is about dwarfs that I find entertaining, but I think they look pretty cool. This is my first attempt in ages to draw one, and I think it is so so. I am not in love with the proportions but I spent way to much time toying with it that I figured I would post it and move on. Well see how my next dwarf looks.

So I keep forgetting to put this up for people that didn't go to APE. This was a postcard I was giving out to any empty hand that was lonely when it walked by.
APE was really fun to go to. Though I don't think my stuff fits there 100%, it was still cool to be there. If you take Comic con and get rid of all the back issue comic seller, get rid of the movies, video games, and action figures, and MARVEL and DC, you might end up with something close to what APE is like......though Comic con rocks as well. Its really cool to go to a convention that has mostly all the artist there.

Well I'm going doing a convention this year. I well be at APE (Alternative Press Expo) Nov 1 and 2nd. You should come out if you live around San Francisco sounds like it well be fun. The pictures for this jam were really cool but I didn't have a ton of time to work on it because I am preping up for APE so its just the B/W of it. So I have a Cintiq and I am trying to get use to drawing on it, but whenever I am at my computer I have a hard time thinking of what to draw sometimes. Since I play more than enough Rock Band and listen to my share of music, I started thinking about drawing Musicians and the like. So from this point on I am hoping to have a stream of rock stars "Auditioning" on my blog with a few random pictures here and there.
Also this is me trying out things i don't normally do in photoshop, using different tools. Its all done on the computer, even the sketching.

Something about scanning I don't like that it took me a while before I put this image in the computer (I think its because I don't have the scanner always hooked up.)
Any how I did this piece with the same thing in mind when I drew the skeleton, I was just messing around with the flow of clothing. Instead of hanging clothing I was thinking about wind(explosions) and how clothing would react around the body.

Been really busy lately with work and a little freelance that I have not had time to really put up anything that I have finished. This drawing I did while I was in a meeting. For some reason I was thinking about how clothing hangs and decided to draw a skeleton. My only wish was that I had enough room to draw his foot, but it was a kinda stream of thought drawing and there was no planing when I was sketching.

Been meaning to put this picture up earlier but I hate scanning so I put it of. I did this at The Drawing Club which is a cool place to do figure drawings on Thursday around Glendale. I don't remember how long the pose was, but after I got home I reworked it to give it a finished look.
I think she looks a little long but I like it, The angle I was in with the model was from the side many times and it did make her look long, but I am sure I caricatured it a bit.

So I finally got this picture done, I been doing to many different pictures at the same time that this one has been slowly in the works.
Its a new addition to my prints I have for sale. I did the ink line and the pillow designs in illustrator and the rest is all photoshop. I hope the picture's colors look as good on your monitors as it does on my good monitor,(they got a little grey on my cheaper monitor....the prints colors are great though).

I figured I'd draw Powergirl because everyone else does at some point that I should get it over with. I was just drawing some girl flying, and decided to make it Powergirl on the fact that I have her as wallpaper on my computer. Hi all,
So I thought with this picture I would experiment with the girls shape a little more and exaggerate the proportions in places. I really like the way the face came out because she looks different. It was originally just a sketch I was playing with, but with my new Cintiq I was looking for cooler avenues to try out. So I took my sketch and scanned it into Flash and inked it in Flash to practice with that program a little more. I still colored it in photoshop. I am wondering what cool things can come out using a combo like that.
I still am not super into the line quality I get with Flash, but its quick and easy to do compared to Illustrator, but I think I like Illustrator a little more.

Cintiq+Flash!

This was a quick little sketch I drew in flash to test it out with the Cintiq. I like the look of it, it has potential with inking a little more organically. It's a lot quicker to vector than in Illustrator and you can get a tapered look more easaly. But Illustrator has a little more control though it takes longer. Flash is also very kind when it comes to coloring. Now I just have to decide to get a new version of flash or keep playing with one that is 8 years old. Also, if you haven't noticed the new Link I put up to your right for POST IT PROJECT. Its a pretty good blog that is always being updated with new stuff. I try to contribute when I can to it, so if you don't see anything new up here, there is a good chance I posted it on that blog. Enjoy everyone.

The Sensational She-Hulk!

I know lifting a car like that is impossible because the bumper would just come off from the weight of the car but I thought it was a funny way to show how strong She-hulk is that she could left the car from the very end (which makes things feel a lot heavier than they are). Also I did it because I didn't want to do the typical lifting a car. This was just going to stay a sketch but since it was She-Hulk I just felt it had to be greened up to make it a little more like her. Enjoy everyone.

conspiracy theory

So I got a Cintiq not that long ago and I this is my go at a all digital piece. Its kinda a sketch but with it being done on the computer I can add all the extras really easy.
Originally this drawing was only me messing around thinking of conspiracy theory and it was just a guy holding a brief case. But My mind just went into him sitting at a diner and Going with conspiracy I added the Aliens watching him. My mind just started thinking and I let it go free on the picture, I liked were I was going so it went from a doodle to finish before I knew it.

Going back the the Cintiq though, So far so good with it, I'm getting use to it still and right now drawing on it feels a little like drawing with a fat sharpie, but compared to what I was trying to sketch a week ago its getting better, and it might be like paper in no time. I still like the real world with paper and pencil but this is a great tool. When it comes to coloring though it really great as well.

Few Dollars More

Hi everyone. So this is a peace I did an Art show we had at work. We had to pick a move and do a movie poster of it. I did for "For a Few Dollars More". The picture isn't so much Caricatures of the characters but more of styled cartoons of them. I colored it a little diferent than I normally do it. I wanted to make it a little rougher looking and not have so many clean cut edges. I added a detail shoot of what it looks like when its bigger, because that was how it was intended to be seen and making it smaller for the web made it lose some of the detail.
I also decided to sell prints of it, but I am only making 25 prints. You can get them on my website.
Also This seemed like a good choice to put up on Illustration Friday' with the word HAT, Since there so many in the picture.

Man, How out there went to a four year college and graduated by the time I put up a new post.

Thanks STARBUCKS! So I have been working hard lately and coffee keeps me going. So In the Theme of being wired I decided to draw me somewhat quickly and with a sharpie so the drawing looks wired to. I kept going with it when I colored it as well. Also I went with all brown colors to match the coffee I'm drinking.

This picture was my first attempt to ink something in illustrator CS2. A friend gave me a bunch of brush presents that looked like Brush stokes, and I waned to see how well I could mimic inking in the computer. I think it works pretty well and I can't wait to try it again with with a environment to ink as well. I just garbed a sketch from my sketch book and went at it, so it lacks a background that the figure truly fits in, so I just went with a funky back ground. I think it has potential for me. I love the idea that i can draw the picture an average size, ink it with vectors and make it 20 inches tall. No more scanning in sections! I colored it in photoshop however, so when you look at the picture just remember the ink is the only think illustrator.

So I have a lot of pictures that have been backing up on my to finish and color list and this is one of them. I actually drew it up a little over a year ago and have not gotten back to it. Instead of letting it collect dust I thought I would put it up for everyone. Hopefully some time in the future you well see it up here on full color. Right know this is a bet more than just a sketch, there still sections of it I would like to rework a little, and i haven't even tried to draw the building in the back yet.
It a super hero time I came up with that i just like there look. The main guy in the front is called Doc Hazard. There a kind of science gone right team that the world sends out to solve problems. There smart and the have huge muscles.(How can a combo like that lose.)

The Savage Paradise

WOW! I thought this picture wouldn't take so long to do. But with the holidays, and so many detraction coming out this time a year(video games) toped with work it really took a lot to get this done. I hope everyone likes it. The picture isn't big on my blog but the original is actually 19 X 13 so there is a lot more detail to it. At some point I think I might try to sell prints of it, but I'm not sure when that time well come.

Finishing process: The last thing i did to this was put the type, the fire, the steam, and the volcano smoke on it. It was done last because it is to go over the ink and color of the picture. Since I did not draw these elements on my original drawing and didn't have a clean line to work with so I made them using illustrator. But since i wanted to control the transparency of it I but the different colors on different layers I get the look I wanted.

Not sure just how noticeable it is here, but this image i Colored in most of the black line with a dark color so its not just black. Some areas are more noticeable than others. I think it helps bring things out and others to blend in together.
I more or less do this possess with a lighten layer over the ink picture. as long as the color around the ink drawing is lighter than the one your using it well just color in the ink line, but at points in the picture you have to be more careful and manually do it so the color doesn't bleed into the darker color next to it.

Here is the fully colored background.

Note: The fire is no longer on the picture because it was just a place over until i put more time into it, since its going over the inked picture and the color as a bit of a transparency I plan on doing it last.

Well, I'm still no were close to being done with the picture yet, I started work again this month and its already not letting me think about my own art work. This picture is going to take longer than I think it would to finish now that its October and now its time to come up with a Halloween costume.
I thought i would put up a little more of what i have done so far. Right now the girl and the front plants are the only thing truly done. Also since i put up a mid-way point last week and then this peice is little further along, I thought i would put my ink drawing i started with so people could get an idea of the different stages of the picture.

This is a middle point for this picture. I decided that this image might be a good idea to make into a print( if I do prints). So I have been spending a lot of time on it, and I really want the picture to be smokin. However I do want to still put it up for Illustration Friday. I am still going to continue to work on it and I think there are still many many hours left to put into this piece. I well post the newer one next to the old one in this post as I get closer to finishing it, So check this post again in a week or 2 so you guys can tell me what you think of it. I also think this is a good opportunity for those people that wonder how I go about making my picture, This is a little window into how my pictures look when I am in the middle of them.

(IF-Change)Metamorpho is probably one of the weirder heros i grew up knowing. He can change his body into anything. He is like plastic man meets Mystic, but he can change into chemicals, gases, or the elements. I grew up reading the "Outsiders" and "Batman and the Outsiders". They were always a odd group to me, and he was funky looking. It wasn't until I was older that i realized that I liked that funky look. When I saw him on my dvd of "Justice League" I wanted to draw him.

Sorry I haven't been posting in awhile. I went to Cacun for a week (very fun, thanks for asking), plus i been working on some stuff I am not going to be posting anytime soon. This is a little something something from it however. You might see it further down the line, its part of a group of spacegirls that im putting together that work as a whole. I called her Sapphire just for a name for now, I know sapphires are blue, so when i come up with a better name this one well do for the post. Hope you like it.

Origanlly this was going to be boxing but I liked showing the hands more. . I think i was inspired by the fighting matches of "Street Fighter vs SNK", that is were the back ground comes in. Who wants to be a GUITAR HERO!!!

I was inspired to do this picture because I love playing Guitar Hero on my PS2. (So its Play guitar, and Play a game.) I colored it in Painter, and am still trying to get use to it. I think I bit off more than I could chew however. having a subject with multiple light sources and coloring it in a new program to me can create many problems. I don't really love the background and hope to change it when I have the free time, Also she was supposed to be sporting a mean looking tattoo on her arm (no time for that either. I just wanted to get it done for IF, before the week was out.

This was done for Thedrawingboard.org .There subject was "Summers Time". I didn't just want to do Cyclops as the picture, but more of his rays from his eyes. Im a big fan of the old school Cyclops from before Jim Lee changed him (his hair wasn't showing) but i decided to go with his most updated costume because its the new one and it went back to the skull cap. But i really have to say i like the design of him in X-men Evolution a lot in which they merged the 2 designs together and made him thin.

Im almost to embarrassed to keep the first one up after this one came out(but i like to compare). Its been ages since the last time I painted, and its taking a while to remember what I use to do to get things to look right. I can't what when all my school studying starts to come back.

Well this is my first attempt at using painter( second if you count me just trying to find out how the program works) I just took an old character design I did that I happened to have scanned in and just started coloring it to see what it looked like and see what I could do with the program. So its a sketch with paint more than anything. The program seems pretty cool once you get use to it. Now i just need to remember how to paint again.

I know, I know, happy and sad isn't the most imaginative idea for Opposites, but i just couldn't think of anything more creative......

I wanted to try something a little different with this picture than normal. Its a greyscale picture that i later added a brown color layer over it. Then i added little bits of yellow or red to some of the browns to pop some of the image out. I didn't think the picture was working for the longest time. But in the end once some extra color was put into it, the picture came together. Now i am very happy with it.

I did this for the word leather. But it looks more like latex, I wanted it to be shiny. The background feels just a little to busy to me. I did it that way though just because i wanted to experement a little with the other brushes in photoshop.

This is a drawing i did before Skyline came up, but i never seemed to get around to coloring it. But since skyline became the subject for Illustration Friday, I saw it as a good opportunity to finish it.
For anyone out there that doesn't know who these people are, It’s the fantastic 4's Mr. Fantastic and The Invisible Girl. To hardcore fans of the comic, I know the invisible girl can make a shield to fly on, but I thought this looked cooler and showed the married couple working together.

I had something like this happen to me many times when i lived in Boston. I took a lot of liberty though on the picture itself. Thought it would be more depressing if the guy was in a suit, and then even more sad if he had groceries. I have had to stay out in the rain more than once waiting for a bus though. Really makes you hate the rain.

Witch when I heard this weeks word was going to be Dance my mind went right to women again. But then I decided that I should think of something different to challenge my self.
